BAT Balanced Audio Technologies VK-3i Preamp Box, Manual. The VK-3i tube preamp has a very high build quality, features and parts. The design offers a fully balanced (or unbalanced), non-inverting line stage utilizing four 6922 and two 6V6 tubes. Volume control is via stepped attenuators using Vishay resistors. Internal parts quality and layout are superb and currently include Mundorf oil-filled signal caps. Case work is beautiful and very solid as well. The rear panel has three sets of RCA inputs and two sets of balanced inputs. Outputs are single-ended tape, and a set each of single-ended and balanced main-out connections. There is plenty of room, and everything is well labeled. The line stage offers overall gain of 18dB, making the VK-3i a medium-output unit. It can be matched to a tube or high quality solid state amplifier.
DALAUDIO recently serviced the unit, cleaned the selector, checked the tubes, set the bias and upgraded the 22 year old signal caps in the potted enclosures to more current EVO Mundorf Silver Gold Oil Caps. The sound and soundstage is fantastic. The typical pop prevalent on the mute switch activation or/deactivation with older caps is non existent. This is ready to go.
