Description of Amp: The Onkyo M5000 Power Amplifier With Delta Power Supply Circuit was made in Japan in the late 1980s. This amp was tested by DALAUDIO and found to be in good working order. The amp is in decent physical condition, and the service manual is available if you bring a USB drive. The amp meets all critical output specs (RMS).
Interestingly the M5000 main (Delta) power supply is very similar to the better known Onkyo M-5100 Delta Supply. This is one of Onkyo's Delta Line Powers Supply designs, which is comprised of a large Mass Power Transformer, with selective filtering and large filter capacitors. The output caps are Nichicon. The Delta was a common theme in Onkyo of the 1980s. The amp section is not the same. The M5100 used discrete 2SC3855's NPN and 2SA1491's PNP transistors. The M-5000 utilizes a monolithic STK-4040V. Essentially the STK packs replaced multiple pairs of discrete transistors, simplifying design and manufacturing. These STK-4040 packs were commonly used by many manufactures in Japan throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. The STK-4044V is a 2Ch AF Power Thick Film Hybrid Power Amp that provides up to 2 Channels @100 Watts. The M5000 amplifier utilizes two quasi-complementary STK 4044V chips with two Darlington pairs. These packs provided quasi-complementary discrete output stages similar to other very well known and appreciated units like Marantz 22xx series and other amps of this era such as Sansui 5000.
My thoughts: The amp was tested and sounds very clean, and dynamic, with output consistent with its THD rating. This amplifier is rated to 105 watts per channel. Actually I was quite surprised how it sounded, very dynamic soundstage, and seemed to have ample headroom for my larger Vintage POLK SDA 2's which we use for auditions as I am most familiar with them. (Sensitivity: 92 dB - Suggested Amplification: 10-500 watts). So based on sound and condition, I raised the price. Its a nice name brand, made in Japan and its a fair price for the quality. The center bar on the front is an AC Power On Indicator, not a level indicator. To the left is the Protection Circuitry Overload Indicator, comes on briefly during start up during normal operation. The amplifier has spring loaded rear speaker terminals, better than most this style, for up to two pairs of speakers. These can be selected from the front panel. Both A &B Speakers have LED on indicators.

Onkyo P3200 Stereo Preamplifier: This preamp was made in Japan in the late 1980s with a real phono stage. It has minimal video options, as it was primarily set up for listening to Stereo Fidelity, as the most common video at that time was VCR. There are only analog outputs and inputs. As a result, the use of this unit should be primarily relegated to Stereo Analog Audio.
Features:
Analog Audio Inputs (RCAs): Phono, Tape 1/2, VCR 1/2, Tuner, CD
Analog Audio Outputs (RCAs): Tape 1/2, VCR 1/2 and Main Out (to amp)
Video In/Out Composite (Coaxial) VCR In/Out, Monitor Out
Controls for Volume, Bass, Treble, Balance and Selective Tone/Loudness Control.
Condition: Good overall aesthetically, decent sound quality, Preamp features a nice motorized volume control that will function with the remote. The sound quality is generally very good, with a decent amount of control over the soundstage tone balance and control. Recently serviced and tested by DALAUDIO.
